In a corner of the University of Richmond bookstore, among aisles of Spider attire, hang Fire Shield power strips and extension cords. These cords are costly yet required purchases for students who want to use electrical products in campus housing. In the UR bookstore, the 6-outlet 3-foot-long power strip currently costs $32.99, and the 3-outlet 8-foot-long extension cord costs $21.99. Both prices are notably higher than similar non-Fire Shield products.

The University of Richmond’s housing fire safety policy was revised in January 2018 to no longer require Fire Shield-brand power strips thus relaxing requirements to permit a wider non-Fire Shield range of options.

CRICKET FIELD TAKING SHAPE

The growing popularity of cricket has created a need for cricket fields in the county that has prompted the construction of one at Deep Run Park as part of a $648,900 renovation project. The 7-acre project will comprise renovations to three existing multipurpose fields to create an international-standard cricket field that has a clay pitch.

SENATE APPROVES BAN ON CONVERSION THERAPY FOR LGBTQ MINORS

The Virginia Senate voted 22-18 on Monday to pass a bill that would make Virginia the 20th state to ban conversion therapy for LGBTQ minors. The bill, HB 386 introduced by Del. Patrick A. Hope, D-Arlington, passed on a 66-27 vote in the House of Delegates on Feb. 3. Gov.
